Have to agree.
A trophy is: "A prize or memento, such as a cup or plaque, received as a symbol of victory, especially in sports. "
I feel that there's just too much coddling of this sort throughout kids lives, and ultimately it sets the kids up for failure. By the time they get out of college (if they even get that far) they're going to wonder "why didn't I land that $100K/year job? Everyone in school always said I was fantastic, always did a great job, wonderful. There was no room for improvement."
If sports are supposed to teach teamwork and discipline and growth, then telling everyone that they're all equal and all winners defeats the purpose. Why work harder or why try to improve when everyone says you're good enough as it is...
Winners get trophies.
Losers get a certificate of participation maybe, and work harder to get trophies next year.
There's too much need for instant gratification. Kids have no need for goals anymore. Everything is handed to them.

That 11-12 group that I saw play was dreadful. I kept thinking that I had to have been watching Ervinton or Thomas Walker. I couldnt believe that it was a group from Wise that was that bad.
...and folks are trying to blame soccer for the decline in baseball at Wise. It is simply a different age IMO. The kids aren't willing to work as hard to exel. Working on the field is harder than playing video games/watching TV. The passion, drive, and work ethic is not there.

And this is derived from the parents, if you do not instill it in them they won't have it, or at least they won't develop what is naturally there.
I used to believe that, but no more. I am seeing alot of lazy kids that come from families where mom and dad hustle and bust ass to make a living. I see alot of kids that are spoiled and coddled, and stand with their palm out waiting on the handout.

Those are great numbers.....I do wonder if Wise might be better off playing "in-house" with those kinds of numbers (Like PV and GC)
I was trying to infer that as well. Even the parents that are go getters and bust their humps are responsible for their children not having it, by just handing them everything and not making them earn it. If they want to play the Xbox make them earn it, mow the lawn, rake the leaves whatever get to play. Don't use these games and such as a pacifier to get them to shut up and stay quiet, shoot you could even use it to get them to go outside and play spend an hour outside playing earn 30 minutes on the video game.
Nowadays with the cost of living way up, and the correlation with pitiful wages, most have to multi-job to make ends meet. Parent-child time is down, and what the kid does when the folks are away is sit in front of the PS3 while the babysitter gabs on the phone. It is just the way it is.
Very very true, my S-I-L and B-I-L are perfect examples of this, they don't give any guidance and let their 2 boys just set at home and do whatever they want. Money isn't a real issue for 2 people with doctorates and great jobs but they just don't make time for their kids, my wife fusses about them all the time.
My other S-I-L got them a Wii while they were in for the summer and put restrictions on it, they could only play like 2 hours a day and had to do chores around the house to earn that.
